We’re so sorry to let you know that our friend and wonderful MHC member Dave Clapp succumbed to pancreatic cancer last Thursday night after a courageous fight. He died peacefully with his wife Susie, son Henry and daughter-in-law Kathleen with him at home while listening to Chopin Nocturnes. His son Sam, who lives in Germany, had been home for a week with Dave just recently.
From helping with substantive strategic and house maintenance issues, to retrieving hundreds of dollars of cash that a Merrill Fellow left hidden in the refrigerator (which Dave, with his characteristic gentle humor, referred to as “the frozen dough”), to fielding tenant calls in the middle of the night, Dave did so much to help make the Merrill House and its programs what they are today. He continued to provide important support to the Merrill House in his more recent additional role of President of the SVIA. Dave’s commitment, his meaningful and creative contributions to all aspects of our programs, and his thoughtful, inclusive manner will surely continue to inspire our own dedication to the Merrill House and the Borough.
With much sadness,
Sally and Bill
